Meet the Teacher

I'm so excited to be part of a new venture called Blog Hoppin'.  Today is Meet the Teacher.

Tell us a little something about you:

I have been married to my wonderful husband for 11 years and we have two beautiful boys.  My boys who are 10 and 7 play hockey and are both goalies.  Even though my name is Amanda, I normally go by Mandy.  That is the usual way that I will sign things.

How long have you been teaching:

This year will be my 20th year.  Wow.  I can't believe it's been that long.  I teach a self contained class of kindergarten children with physical and speech disabilities in a hospital school.  I love my class and each year brings new challenges.

You might not know........

That my husband and I have a drag racing that we race.

What are you looking most forward to this school year?

This year I'm going to have 3 children that are non-verbal (meaning they have little or no speech).  I'm really looking forward to seeing how much progress we can make this year in their communication and academic skills. I love a challenge.

What do you need to improve?

Math.  I am looking forward to implementing some of the math station ideas that I have gotten from our wonderful math work station book study.   I have always focused so heavily on literacy that I need to balance that out with math.

What teaching supplies can you *not* live without?

Velcro.  When you work with children with poor fine motor skills, Velcro is a must.

Diet Caffeine Pepsi.  Seriously.  I'm addicted.

My Smart board.  The children love this technology.

My EA's.  They are my right and left hands.

Head over to Blog Hoppin' and check out our wonderful blog.  While you are there link up with your information.

You seem like the lady I need to talk to! I have a classroom with several new challenges to me. One austistic child - low verbal skills, one MR, two ODD, and a few that are just challenging. Would it be ok to email you? Could you email me to let me know if this would be ok.
