Halloween Activities

Sorry I've been so slow in getting my Halloween activities posted.  Here are a two things that we did this week.  The first was a spider inspired by Sunny Days in Second Grade.

 The second was a science activity from Fran over at Kindergarten Crayons.  I enlarged the spinner and we did the activity as a large group (well I only have 7 so it's not that large.)

CPR and First Aid

Today we had a PD day and it was time for our CPR and First Aid training.  Working with such fragile children requires us to be update with our skills.  We are also trained on the use of a Defibrillator.  We have one in our building and there ones in most public buildings now.

If you don't have CPR please consider taking it.  You never know when you might need it.

New Pizza Interactive Book

My new pizza interactive book is ready.  It is a set of three Pizza easy readers. They all contain the same story but two of them are interactive. The first one is a regular book with easy repetitive text. The second one involves putting the correct sentence to the picture. The sentences can be cut up into individual words to make the activity harder. The third book is a fill in the blank activity. Children need to read the sentence and fill in the blank with the correct word by checking the picture. The books come packaged together and ready for you to print out, laminate and bind together. This book also comes with vocabulary flash cards. You can find it here.

Numbers, Numbers

The medical records department in our building has gone to a computerized system.  As a result they have boxes and boxes on number stickers.  What should I do with all these numbers?

New Halloween Items

I finally have my Halloween items posted on my TpT store.   I thought Halloween would be over before I was organized.  Here are some of the activities we did this week.

We matched upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.  I used Velcro to hold the spiders down on the right hand side and a little piece of Velcro by the lower case letter on the web.

 We numbered the cats on the fence from 1 to 20.

 The children really enjoyed working together.

 The children had to put the right number of lollipops in the treat bags.

 This one was a little harder as we don't know our number words yet.  The children had to put the candy corn back in the right order with the number, correct number of dots and number word.

My newest interactive book involves Halloween costumes. 

 It includes flash cards.

 The first book contains the story with no adaptations.  One interactive book requires the children to read the sentence and put in either the word "girl", "bear" or "boy".

 Another one, requires the children to put in the costume word.

 The last book requires the children to put in the entire sentence.  To make it harder, you could cut the sentence into individual words and have the children put the sentence in order.

Witch Legs

I'm so sorry that I haven't posted in a while.  IEP's are due this week and they are sucking up all my time.  I have a few Halloween activities to post in my TPT store and I'm hoping to have them up by tomorrow.  In the mean time.....here is a Pinterest Inspired craft we did this week.  The witch legs I saw were done by a grade 5 class.  Ours aren't quite as neat.  I let the children cut their own shapes, and except for the shoes, they didn't have a pattern.  What do you think?

Pizza, Pizza

Today was all about pizza.  We started by reading "The Little Red Hen (makes a pizza)" by  Philemon Sturges.  This is a wonderful book and the illustrations are great. 

 After we talked about what ingredients we would put on our pizzas, we made paper models with our favourite toppings.

 At lunch time we made real pizzas.  We used pitas, pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni.

 For our students who only eat purees, we blended down the cooked pizza with a little milk.  We blend down everything in our class.  No one misses out in what we do.

Candy Corn Craft

This was a Pinterest inspired craft but it didn't work out as well as the instructions.  We started out with wax paper candy corn shapes.

 We added yellow tissue paper to the front and back on the bottom.

 Then we added orange to the middle.  

 We then added white to the top of the candy corn.

 When the tissue paper was done, we glued the black outline to the candy corn shape.

 The instructions called for ironing the shape to make it shiny.  This didn't work but just seemed to burn the glue.  We tried ironing it directly and putting a towel in between but it didn't make a difference.

 In the end, we decided to cover the whole thing with white glue.

 Hopefully it will dry shiny.
