Olympic Dreams

Even though I've been holiday for the past two weeks, I've managed to catch some of the Olympics.  If you have been watching, you have probably seen Oscar Pistorius  from South Africa.

He is the first double amputee to complete in the Olympics.  It is an amazing accomplishment for people with disabilities and he is a huge roll model for children.  If you haven't seen him run yet, you can still catch him tonight in the finals of the relay.

I love this quote by him.  I think I might put this up on the wall of my classroom.

How do we as a society view disabilities and what people can and cannot do?  What are we telling our young disabled students? Are we telling them that one day they too could be in the Olympics if they wanted to?  I hope so.

You can read more about Oscar on his website.

What a fabulous quote! Oscar is certainly an incredible role model for all of us. I have been hunting for diy posters for my class and I think I'll be borrowing this photo from you.

Thrilled to have stumbled across your blog. It isn't easy finding blogs written by teachers working in self-contained classroom and a bonus is that you are in Ontario too!!
