Bright Ideas Blog Hop

I am so excited to be doing the Bright Ideas Blog hop again this month.

I thought that I would give you a few ideas about how I organize my guided reading time.

I usually run my guided reading time by pulling a group of children out during sight word centers. I see each group twice a week for 30 minutes.   The centers are organized into baskets and the children have a little clipboard that they mark off when they have finished each one.

I have 4 different groups.  Group 1 is working on level 1 books.  Groups 2 and 3 are working on level 2 books and group 4 is working on level 6 books.  I have the groups organized into baskets.  Each basket contains the book we are working on, sight word rings and any other activity I will be doing with the group.

Each child has their own word ring that they take home each night.  The ring contains ONLY the words they know and the new words they are learning in the current week.  I quickly test each child on their words each time they see me and I keep track of the results in a binder.

I have quite a large levelled library.  Each level has it's own box so they are easy to find.  I usually take out a few books from the levels I need and put them in a separate box.  This way I can quickly grab the ones I need when I'm working with the kids.

Each day I let the children pick out a "just right" book to take home.  Once they have chosen a book, they read it to me, then put it in a zip-lock bag to take home.

I'm so happy that you stopped by to visit me today.  I hope you will come back.

Head on over the next stop in the blog hop.  Laura from Love to Teach has some tips on dry erase fun.

Oh, I love seeing how other people organize for their groups! I'm a reading specialist and it was so helpful to see how you do things. Thanks!

I am also a special ed teacher and loved getting a peek into your guided reading set up. Would you be willing to share your schedule for guided reading groups? Also, do your other students work independently on sight word centers or do they have help? I need to rethink my guided reading...and any help you can give would be appreciated!! Feel free to email me. a_covey@vwcs.net

I love how you have individual sight word rings for your kids. I think I'm going to adopt that! Thanks!

Hi,
I was wondering do you have a picture of your checklist? Do you assign a couple of centers a day or do your kids pick? How do you differentiate centers? I appreciate any advice. Thank you.
