My students love books. They love books about songs and love books with movable parts.
5 Green and Speckled Frogs was one of my favourite songs as a kids. I was a Girl Guide and our leader was very musical. We sang every week and this song was a favourite of everyone.
Now, as an adult, it's still one of my favourites.
It's catchy, fun and also works on counting skills.
When I saw these cute graphics, I just knew I had to make a set of interactive readers to go with them.
When I start out introducing the song/book to the children, I start with the plain book.
We sing it several times until the children are familiar with the song.
When you turn each page, the number of frogs on the logs goes down by one.
Once the children are familiar with the song, and are ready to work on number recognition, I introduce the second book.
This book is perfect from my students working on the numbers 1 to 5. The numbers are at the bottom of the page and children have to put the correct number in the right spot of the verse. You can put the numbers in order at the bottom so that they show the remaining number of frogs, you can put them in order from 1 to 5, or you can mix them up.
The third book also has movable parts and is perfect for children who may not be ready for actual numbers and are working at a concrete level.
This book has a fold out page at the back. The frogs are cut out and put on the log with Velcro. I put Velcro on the bottom of the page as well.
As we read the story, I have the children take one frog from the log and move it down to the bottom of the page.
The page turns up on the left hand side as the story progresses and the back stays out on the right.
The children love moving the frogs. They want to do it over and over again.
If you are interested in these books, you can find them by clicking on the picture below. They will be 1/2 price until Wednesday.
