I'm Thankful for.....

What the Teacher Wants and Oh'Boy 4th Grade are holding linky parties on what you are thankful for. Head on over to join in the fun. Here are my answers.

1. What are you thankful for in your classroom?

I have to say my new IPad!  It just arrived on Friday and I am beyond excited.  I go to a workshop tomorrow for tips and tricks.  Can anyone recommend any great apps for kindergarten and/or special ed?  I would love to hear them.
2. What person are you most thankful for?

I would have to say my children and husband.  We lost a child last week that was with us last year at school and it makes you realize just how precious your own family is.

3. What 3 blogs are you most thankful for?

I would have to say Deanna Jump's blog (she's the reason I started blogging), Growing Kinders and Kindergarten Crayons.

4. What guilty pleasure are you most thankful for?

I would have to say reading.  I have read some awesome books lately:  The Hunger Games Series (can't wait for the movie) and the Junie B Jones Books (with my son).

5. What are you most thankful for?

I am thankful for everyone who reads this blog.  When I first started, I wasn't sure I would have anything worth writing and I wasn't sure anyone would read it.  So I'm very thankful that you stopped by today.

We love our iPad!! There are so many great Apps, and they seem to be coming out with more weekly. Depends on what your using the iPad for, but I am sure you'll find a bunch you and your kids will love. Right now my class is obessed with the Zoo Train. My district also just bought Proloquo 2go for my iPad, which is an assitive communication device with great reviews (although costs a pretty penny). Let me know if you need any more ideas, or if you find any apps your kids fall in love with! :)

I LOVE our school iPads as well!!!! I have only really looked in to free apps at this point....here's what I suggest....

Pandora - for listening to music, I made a kidz bop station and a calming music station (I use this as a reward, during down time, musical chairs, or to drawn out mis behaving students;)

7 Words - Solely for my pleasure

Reward/Free time games - Angry birds, canknockdown, four in a row, tictacfree

Good for students with Autism or Language delays- Touch & Say, find & learn, play'n'say, clean up, families 1

Reading/Phonics - letter of the day, sound sorting (by LakeShore), tons of audio books by grasshopper apps, SBSpelling (you can input your own spelling lists for students to practice), I also use the built in camera to have students record themselves reading a book and watch it:-D

Math - Learn Shapes, Dot to Dot, KidsCounting, animal math, mathedge +, Math Drills lite, Little matchups count money

Doodle buddy - I use for anything! (spelling practice, writing letters/numbers, free time, etc.)

It's so much fun looking for new apps! Enjoy the iPad!

Our school got all the SPED teachers Ipads as well. I would prefer to have a class set, but I"ll take what I can get. I learned about a website called livebinder.com that has apps organized by grade and special education. Hope this helps! I love using the pdf app. I make a worksheet and the students can write on it and I can print it off for record keeping.

oh so exciting that you have an ipad.
We have so many apps that Junior loves. Some of our favorite educational apps are math magic, word magic(we love all the apps made by the makers of word magic), teach me kindergarten and teach me first grade are both awesome. Measurement HD, all the Mobile Education apps, sound chase is one of Junior favs(it is a memory type game where you match the animal to the sound it makes). Cookie doodle, My play home, Sounding board(not our fav communication app but it can be used with a switch so we use it often), Proloquo2go is an amazing communication app that we use all the time(it is pricey but has been totally worth it for Junior). Magnetic ABC, alphawriter, word wizard, kidskeys, solar system HD. Junior also loves books so has numerous read along books(smurfs, shrek, megamind, etc.). I will stop there but could go on and on, lol. Let me know if you need anymore ideas. Oh one I don't want to leave out is Chore Pad, a great app for helping kids stay on task.
